Trust Is Built in Increments You Will Not Remember

Nobody recalls the moment trust was established — because it never has one. It accrues in small, boring deposits.

Ask anyone on your team when they started trusting you and you will get a shrug. Trust does not arrive in grand gestures. It compounds out of small, repeated proofs: the meeting that started on time, the hard message delivered without spin, the credit passed along uninflated.

The corollary is uncomfortable. Because deposits are invisible, leaders systematically underinvest in them. A dramatic save gets remembered; a hundred kept promises do not. But the hundred promises are the balance the save draws on.
